The United Nations Private Sector Forum on Climate was held as the high-level luncheon of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Climate Summit. This year the UN hosted the Climate Summit leading up to the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly. The Climate Summit aimed to catalyze ambitious action locally and globally, strengthen resilience and mobilize political will to achieve a 2-degree Celsius path. Solutions-oriented engagement by the private sector will be vital in these efforts and in building collective momentum towards a universal climate agreement by 2015.
The UN Private Sector Forum is organized annually by the UN Global Compact in order to bring the voice of the private sector to inter-governmental negotiations. As part of the Climate Summit, this year’s UN Private Sector Forum brought together chief executives with Heads of State and leaders from civil society and the UN around climate priorities. Held as a high-level roundtable luncheon, business leaders had the unique opportunity to engage in discussion and demonstrate that companies play a critical role in building low-carbon, high-resilient economies.
